1) Centre for Real Estate Studies (CRES)
The Centre for Real Estate Studies (CRES) is UTM’s Centre of Excellence in Real Estate was established in 1997 to provide support for a variety of real estate research and educational activities at the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying.
The centre helps to fulfil the needs of the real estate and facilities management industry in research, knowledge advancement, professional practice, and experience through inter-institutional collaboration and information exchange between the University and industries.
2) Forensic Engineering Centre (FEC)
The Forensic Engineering Centre (FEC) was established in February 2015, as an effort to integrate available expertise in various fields at UTM to understand and to overcome complex problems related to the forensic engineering.
FEC is an interdisciplinary centre for research, consultancy and graduate and professional training in forensic study on building and infrastructure related areas. Although it was officially formed in 2015, most of the FEC members have carried out many forensic investigations and structural assessment projects since early 1990s when they were working under Civil Engineering Testing Unit (CETU). Today, CETU, which was accredited with ISO 17025 since 2004, is the most prominent laboratory test partner of FEC.
3) Centre of Tropical Geongineering (GEOTROPIK)
Inspired by the challenges on complex issues of Geoengineering related to tropical climate, GEOTROPIK was established on February 2016. GEOTROPIK is envisioned as a dynamic multidisciplinary fields of geoengineering to face problems of practical importance for both industries and government agencies.
GEOTROPIK has an outstanding research facilities, dedicated technical and administrative staffs and fellows whose expertise in Geotechnics, Geology, Geohazard, Ground Water, Geoenvironment, Geomatics, Geospatial Information System (GIS), Geophysics, Instrumentation & Monitoring and Computational Geoengineering, which will promote internal and external networking and coordination, with sharing of resources and knowledge.
4) Centre for the Study of Built Environment in the Malay World (KALAM)
This centre was set up in June 1996 on the foundation of numerous intricate Measured Drawing works of Historical Buildings out of concern for the rapid disintegration and elimination of Malaysia’s architectural heritage. With the accumulation of these works since 1975, the research towards the identification, classification and analysis of the architectural heritage was established through Undergraduate and Post-Graduate studies. Today, KALAM has a documentary collection of more than 600 buildings such as Residences, Palaces, Mosques, Public Buildings, Commercial Buildings, Wakaf, Madrasah and Tombs.
5) UTM Construction Research Centre (UTM CRC)
UTM CRC was established in 2012 to stimulate and facilitate collaboration and information exchange between universities, government research institutes, industries and organisations engaged in the construction and manufacturing sector.
It is based at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. There are a number of qualified academic staffs or fellows in multidisciplinary fields (science, mechanical, and civil engineering) who teach and conduct research and consultancy for organisations with particular construction concerns and specialises in continuing education, courses, workshops and conferences in construction.
